In southwest China's Yunnan Province, the wild Asian elephant population has risen from about 180 in the 1980s to over 300 today, thanks to decades of habitat protection. This conservation success has led to elephants visiting nearby villages and farmlands more frequently, creating both joy and challenges for local communities. To address this, authorities have introduced a high-tech monitoring system – using drones, infrared cameras and rapid alerts – which detects elephants and issues warnings in just seconds, helping people and elephants coexist safely.
