In the Tibetan language, "co" means "lake." Hidden deep in the heart of the snow-capped mountains at an altitude of over 4,900 meters, Gurula Co – a heart-shaped lake – captivates visitors with its breathtaking grandeur and mystical charm. The landscapes around the lake, nestled in Tsomey County of Shannan City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, make it an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts.
Gurula Co has caught eyes after travel vlogger Wang Zihao shared a video on Douyin in 2024, showcasing the lake's crystal-clear waters framed by towering peaks, glaciers and a vibrant sea of alpine flowers. The striking scenery quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention online.
In response to the surge of visitors, the local government has been working to improve supporting infrastructure and tourism services, aiming to balance ecological preservation with sustainable development. Gurula Co is now not only a natural wonder but also a symbol of Xizang's growing eco-tourism appeal.
