Two cloves of garlic: a soldier's silent story

In 2008, at the Beiqiling battlefield north of Beijing, volunteers uncovered two garlic bulbs beneath a half-buried bowl. These weren't food – they were wartime "toothbrushes," issued to Chinese soldiers fighting Japanese invaders. The man who carried them never got to use them – his life ended before he had the chance. Even the smallest relic speaks volumes about sacrifice and memory.
