18 world and nine Games records broken at Chengdu World Games

The 2025 Chengdu World Games has witnessed the breaking of 18 world records nine Games records since the competitions began in the capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province last week. Home athletes have set two world records and one Games record with their excellent performance.

Both the men's and women's team relay world records have been broken in sport climbing and Chinese climbers set the women's record in 13.28 seconds after dominating the event by winning five out of the six gold medals on offer.

The Chengdu Sport University Sancha Lake Campus Natatorium emerged as the "highest record-breaking density" venue at the World Games as a total of 16 world records and nine Games records across three disciplines, finswimming, freediving, and lifesaving, were broken at this venue.

In finswimming, seven world records and nine Games records were shattered, with China claiming both the world and Games record in the women's 4x50m surface relay event.

In freediving, two world records were broken in the women's dynamic with fins and women's dynamic without fins.

In lifesaving, all seven new world records were established by athletes from Europe. Sunday is the final day of the Chengdu World Games and the closing ceremony will take place at the International Friendship Pavilion, International Horticultural Exhibition Park.
