Chinese-Malaysian groups lead WWII surrender commemorations

02:39

People in Malaysia have been marking the 80th anniversary of Japan's surrender at the end of the Second World War. It was ethnic Chinese who bore the brunt of the brutality of Japan's occupation of what was then Malaya, as well as leading the resistance and forming the core of some 3,200 volunteers who ferried essential supplies and donations to China to help fight Japanese forces. CGTN correspondent Rian Maelzer covered the memorial ceremonies in Kuala Lumpur and opening of a new site to commemorate the sacrifices of the Southeast Asian volunteer truck drivers and engineers.
