The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday that China believes dialogue and negotiation are the only viable way out of the crisis.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a question about U.S. President Donald Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders at the White House on Monday.
"We are glad to see all efforts committed to peace," Mao said.
When asked about latest development on the Ukraine crisis, Mao reiterated China's consistent and clear position, noting that "China is not the creator of the Ukraine crisis, nor is it a party to the conflict. However, China has upheld an objective and impartial stance and insisted on promoting peace and facilitating peace talks since the first day of the crisis."
Mao also noted China has issued a position paper on the political settlement of the crisis, dispatched special envoys to engage in shuttle diplomacy, and established the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis, sending an impartial message of dialogue and reconciliation.
"China stands ready, in line with the will of the parties concerned, to continue working with the international community to play a constructive role in advancing a political settlement of the crisis," she added.
