Al Nassr and Al Ittihad will face each other in the semifinals at the Saudi Super Cup in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Tuesday with the tournament taking place in East Asia for the first time following its appearances in England and the United Arabic Emirates (UAE).
Al Nassr's 40-year-old Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo will again go for his first official championship since he joined the club in 2022. He has scored 93 goals and delivered 19 assists in 105 matches for his side, but won only the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, which was considered an unofficial tournament.
Al Nassr finished third place in the Saudi Pro League last season, 13 points behind the champions Al Ittihad. They fired two coaches, Luis Castro and Stefano Pioli. The Portuguese Jorge Jesus took over the club in July.
"Now I am with the competing rival team however we continue to be friends," Jesus said. "What motivated me actually to accept the Al Nassr offer is Christiano Ronaldo being on board. That was a big incentive for me to accept this challenge and now this is a new life. A new life with Al Nassr and we are mobilizing everything for this season and we are getting ready to meet the rival team and give a good impression and to participate seriously in this season."
Al Ahli will face Al Qadsiah in the other semifinal game on Wednesday.
