In 1940, the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression entered its most difficult phase. In Yangquan, Shanxi Province – the main eastern battlefield behind enemy lines – the Eighth Route Army launched a large-scale operation known as the Hundred-Regiment Campaign.

Eighty-five years later, we return to this once war-torn land to uncover the story of a national struggle and to hear the echoes history has left behind.
