China's third National Park Forum opened on Tuesday in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province. The forum, themed "protecting natural treasures, shaping the beauty of harmony," is organized by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration as well as the Sichuan provincial government.
At the opening ceremony, three key achievements in national park development were released: national park development report, national park monitoring system construction plan and standardized design system manual for the visual identity of China's national parks.
The development report is based on assessments by more than 50 academicians and experts from leading Chinese institutions such as Tsinghua University and Peking University. It highlights significant ecological progress, including black soil beach restoration in Sanjiangyuan area, connectivity of giant panda ecological corridors and habitat recovery for Amur tigers and leopards. It also underscores advances in scientific research, including the establishment of national centers for giant panda conservation, and the application of technologies like acoustic monitoring.
In terms of social benefits, the first five national parks prioritized the recruitment of nearly 50,000 local residents as ecological rangers, responsible for ecological protection and community development.
The monitoring system plan provides a unified framework for integrating cutting-edge technologies into a sky–space–ground monitoring network, enabling real-time wildlife detection, online supervision and precise, automated management of national parks.
To further standardize national park identity, the new design manual offers a professional and systematic guide for the use of visual identity elements, ensuring consistent and accurate communication of the national park identity.
The forum also promoted green and low-carbon practices, introducing a carbon-neutral calculation and display system for the first time. It precisely measured carbon emissions from all aspects of the event – including transportation, accommodation, catering and materials – ensuring that the entire forum was measurable, traceable and can be offset. This initiative sets a new benchmark for sustainable national-level conferences, with event materials prioritized for eco-friendly and sustainable products.
