Troops participating in the upcoming V-Day parade will line up in formations along Chang'an Avenue in Beijing, and they will be reviewed by President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

A total of 45 formations and echelons will be involved in the grand parade, which will last for approximately 70 minutes, said Wu Zeke, deputy director of the Leading Group Office of Military Parade and a senior officer of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, at a press conference on Wednesday to outline preparations for the parade on September 3.

The event will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

During the parade march-past, airborne flag-guarding echelons, foot formations, battle flag formations, armament columns and aerial echelons will pass through or fly across Tiananmen Square in order, according to Wu.

Currently, all parade preparations have been basically completed, the military officer said.

First on 'new journey'

The V-Day military parade will be the first of its kind held after the cause of advancing Chinese modernization on all fronts embarked on a "new journey," Wu said.

He added that the event will also be a demonstration of the people's armed forces as it strives to achieve the military's centenary goal.

New structural layout to debut

A new layout of the structure of Chinese armed forces will be displayed for the first time at the upcoming V-Day military parade, according to the press conference.

Led by the Party, national and military flags, troop formations will march during the parade, holding the flags of various military forces as well as the flag of the People's Armed Police Force, Wu said.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army has four branches, namely the aerospace force, cyberspace force, information support force and joint logistics support force, as well as the army, navy, air force and rocket force.

Parade to demonstrate commitment to Party

The parade will demonstrate the armed forces' firm commitment to following the command of the CPC and their loyalty to the Party's leadership core, said Wu.

The V-Day parade will showcase the military's latest achievements in enhancing political loyalty and improving political work through rectification, he said.

Wu emphasized that the armed forces will remain unwaveringly loyal to the Party's leadership core, and firmly uphold, safeguard and defend this core.

He added that the armed forces will remain a heroic military that the Party and the people can always rely on.

New-generation armaments to be displayed

China will showcase a series of new-generation armaments during the upcoming V-Day military parade in Beijing, such as fourth-generation tanks and aircraft, unmanned intelligence and counter-unmanned equipment, and advanced missiles including hypersonic ones, said Wu.

All the armaments to be displayed are domestically made and in active service, he said.

Wu added that these armaments are composed mainly of new-type fourth-generation equipment, such as new-type tanks, ship-borne aircraft and fighter jets. Organized according to combat modules, these formations highlight the Chinese military's systems-based operational capabilities.

A series of land, sea and air unmanned intelligent and counter-unmanned equipment, as well as cyber-electronic combat forces, such as new-type drones, directed-energy weapons and electronic jamming systems, will also be displayed, he said.

In addition, the parade will feature other types of advanced equipment such as hypersonic and air defense anti-missile equipment and strategic missiles – which will demonstrate China's powerful strategic deterrence capability, Wu noted.

With a high level of informatization and intelligence, the weapons and equipment to be displayed will fully demonstrate the strong capability of the Chinese armed forces to adapt to sci-tech development and the evolution of war forms, and to win future wars, he said.

Part of China's land-, sea- and air-based strategic heavyweights and hypersonic precision-strike weapons will be displayed for the first time at the parade, according to the official.

Parade to highlight peace

China's V-Day parade is meant to signal that the country upholds peace and will firmly defend international fairness and justice, said Wu.

The parade will showcase that under the leadership of the CPC, the country and the armed forces have grown strong, and the great spirit of the War of Resistance lives on, Wu said.

He added that the parade will demonstrate to the world that the victory 80 years ago was a triumph of justice over evil, light over darkness, and progress over reaction.

China was the first to fight against fascist aggression and sustained the longest resistance, Wu said, adding that the tremendous sacrifices of the Chinese people sustained the main Eastern Battlefield of the World Anti-Fascist War.

China tied down and fought the bulk of Japanese forces, wiping out more than 1.5 million enemy troops in the war, Wu said, adding that China had made a major contribution to the triumph of the World Anti-Fascist War.

He said China will work together with peace-loving countries and people across the world to uphold and advocate the correct historical view of World War II, resolutely safeguard the post-war international order, firmly defend international fairness and justice, firmly oppose all forms of hegemonism and power politics and jointly promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
