In 1936, rising tensions in northern China erupted into the Suiyuan Campaign, a series of battles between Chinese forces and Japanese-backed troops. The successful defense of key towns, including Honggertu and Bailingmiao, marked one of the rare victories before the full-scale War of Resistance began. Today, historic sites in the region preserve the memory of these early confrontations.
