As of Thursday, six players from the Chinese mainland had qualified for the men's and women's singles main draws at the U.S. Open, which will get underway in Queens, New York, on Sunday.

Buyunchaokete is in the same quadrant as men's singles defending champion and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy, while Shang Juncheng has been slotted into the same quadrant as second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.

World No. 76 Buyunchaokete will face Valentin Royer of France in the first round, with the two players having never previously met on the court. Last season, the 23-year-old Chinese was knocked out in the first round of the campaign's final Grand Slam by Casper Ruud of Norway 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-2.

Sinner will take on Vit Kopriva of the Czech Republic in his opening match at Flushing Meadows.

Shang will clash with Mattia Bellucci of Italy in the first round. The 20-year-old Chinese bowed out after advancing to the third round at last season's edition of the tournament.

This will be the first match between the two players, and the winner is likely to move on to the imposing challenge of World No. 2 Alcaraz. The Spaniard will cross racquets with 66th-ranked home hope Reilly Opelka in his opener.

Meanwhile, 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia will begin his campaign for a 25th major trophy as the seventh seed, meeting American teenager Learner Tien in the first round. The former World No. 1 is in the same half of the draw as Alcaraz.

On the women's side, Yuan Yue and Wang Yafan will both go up against seeded players in the first round.

Yuan will face Russian 17th seed Liudmila Samsonova for the first time. They are in the same quadrant of the draw as last year's runner-up, the USA's fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula, whose first opponent is Mayar Sherif of Egypt.

Wang Yafan will take on 10th seed Emma Navarro of the USA in their first career meeting. Their quadrant also includes Chinese compatriot Zhu Lin, who will meet Anastasia Potapova after losing both of her previous matches against the Russian.

The highest-ranking Chinese player at the tournament, World No. 37 Wang Xinyu, will face home hope Caroline Dolehide. In their most recent meeting at last year's Wuhan Open, Wang Xinyu collected a straight-sets win 6-4, 6-0.

They are in the same quadrant as second seed Iga Swiatek of Poland, who will clash with Emiliana Arango of Colombia in her opener. This half of the draw also features third-seeded home favorite Coco Gauff.

Belarusian defending champion Aryna Sabalenka is in the same half as Pegula, and her opponent in the first round will be Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland.
