The cultural exchange event "Echoes of Peace," organized by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chinese Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, was held in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, delivered a speech via video at the event.
Shen noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
"History is the best textbook," Shen said. "Only by remembering history can we stand firm in safeguarding peace, defending fairness and justice, and creating a better future."
CMG is willing to deepen cooperation with international partners to build a media platform for news reporting, information exchange, and resource sharing through a communication model integrating intellectual depth, artistic expression and technological innovation, Shen said.
Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Zhang Yiming attended the event and delivered a speech.
"We commemorate this great victory to better safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order underpinned by international law," Zhang said. "In the face of certain countries resorting to unilateral bullying and applying international rules selectively, all nations should firmly uphold the authority and standing of the UN, and promote global governance in a more just and equitable direction," he added.
Zhang also noted that this year marks the "Year of China" within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and that China is ready to work with SCO partners, including the UAE, to put multilateralism into practice through concrete actions, improve global governance, safeguard the international order, and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity.
The event also attracted guests from media, think tanks and academic institutions in the Middle East region.
"China and the UAE have been the builders of world peace since the end of the World War II," said Mohamed Firas Alnaeb, president of the Strategia Center for Studies in Dubai. "They are the contributors to global development and defenders of the international order, long committed to promoting peace, stability and common development worldwide."
The event screened several Chinese films and documentaries to underscore the value of peace and the shared responsibility to protect it, including those produced by CMG and CGTN.
