The United Nations (UN) World Food Programme has warned that more than half a million people in Gaza are now trapped in famine, facing starvation, destitution, and preventable deaths.
The findings were published on August 22, 2025 in the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, which projects that by the end of September, more than 640,000 people will face catastrophic levels of food insecurity across the Gaza Strip.
The four UN agencies – the Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, World Food Programme, and the World Health Organization – jointly emphasized that "famine must be stopped at all costs."
