Letters amid flames of war: The three choices of a loyal overseas Chinese patriot

08:58

In July 1917, Zhang Junwu was born in Taxia Village, Nanjing County, in China's Fujian Province. At 17, he set out alone for Southeast Asia. At 20, he resolutely returned home to join the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. From a young overseas Chinese fighter transporting munitions through barrages of gunfire, to a fearless air force pilot who gave his life in defense of his country, Zhang Junwu's choices throughout his life embodied the lofty spirit of "sacrificing oneself for the nation's peril, facing death as if returning home."
