1 dead, 4 wounded after shooting in New York City park

Several people fired shots in Haffen Park in New York City at around 7:27 p.m. on Saturday, killing one person and injuring four others, including one teenager in critical condition, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).

The NYPD said the shootings happened during a back-to-school community basketball game inside the park.

A 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the face were transported to hospital, where the man was pronounced dead. The three other people who suffered gunshot wounds took themselves to hospitals.

Four people were taken into custody and multiple guns were recovered, the NYPD said. The incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
