In the fall of 1938, Japanese troops swept through Wutai Mountain in northern China, destroying the hospital Dr. Bethune had established. Undeterred, the Canadian medic formed a mobile team and set up temporary operating rooms, pioneering battlefield medicine under guerrilla conditions.
