In our series "Art Amid the Flames," we explore how Chinese artists, scholars, and institutions kept culture and creativity alive during the War of Resistance. In the first episode, we tell the story of musician Xian Xinghai, who in 1939 composed the "Yellow River Cantata," which blends the Western symphonic style with Chinese folk tradition. Eight decades on, it still stands as a symbol of resilience and collective hope.
