Letters amid flames of war: A maritime school deep in the mountains

Amid the turmoil of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in the 1940s, philanthropist Chen Jiageng faced the challenge of relocating Jimei School. He sent telegrams to alumni at home and abroad, urging them to return and teach. He also established a bank to sustain the school's maritime education. Thanks to his unwavering commitment, the school's nautical program never ceased, nurturing generations of maritime professionals for China.
