The main goals put forward in the outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021- 2025), including comprehensive energy production capacity and the proportion of non-fossil energy, will be completed as scheduled, said Wang Hongzhi, director of the National Energy Administration, on August 26, during a press conference on the theme of "Successfully Completing the 14th Five-Year Plan". The emphasis on green and low-carbon development has garnered global attention, with China becoming an important driving force in the world's energy transition, Wang added.
Wang also stated that the period of the 14th Five-Year Plan will be a five-year phase characterized by sufficient energy supply, the fastest green and low-carbon transition, major breakthroughs in energy technology innovation, and a continuously strengthening momentum for energy development.
Wang highlighted that during this period, the share of renewable energy generation capacity in China will increase from 40 percent to around 60 percent.
In terms of technology, China's new energy and other technological equipment now leads the world, with the number of new energy patents accounting for over 40 percent of the global total, Wang said. Photovoltaic conversion efficiency and offshore wind turbine capacity continue to break world records, and in just a few years, the scale of new energy storage has risen to the world's largest, he added.
Regarding market vitality, the number of registered operating entities in the electricity market has reached 970,000, which is five times that of 2020.
Since the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the country has provided a Chinese solution for the world's energy transition in the face of a complex and changing domestic and international energy landscape.
