China's National Health Commission (NHC) on Tuesday released the 2025 edition of the guideline for palliative care practice, updating the trial version first issued in 2017. The new guideline aims to further promote the development of palliative care nationwide and standardize clinical practices.

Palliative care focuses on terminally ill patients and their families through a multidisciplinary approach. Key areas include pain and symptom management, comfort care and psychological, spiritual and social support.

The 2025 edition provides guidance on symptom control, comfort care, psychological support and humanistic care. It also refines assessment and observation points, treatment principles, nursing measures, support mechanisms and precautions, providing a framework for local implementation.
