An international seminar on counterterrorism was held on Tuesday in Urumqi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with officials and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions gathering to discuss the importance of countering terrorism and extremism, as well as strengthening joint efforts against these threats.

The Chinese side emphasized that China's proposals for the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, as well as building a community with a shared future for humanity, have opened new paths for strengthening international cooperation and addressing global challenges in counterterrorism.

The Chinese side called on the international community to practice the three global initiatives, eliminate the roots of terrorism, support and enhance the United Nations' coordination role in the global fight against terrorism, and effectively utilize multilateral platforms, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, to promote lasting international peace and universal security.

All participants agreed that all countries should sincerely assume their international responsibility, resolutely fight all forms of terrorism, and avoid selective counterterrorism and double standards.
