Japan's weather agency said on Wednesday that Tokyo experienced a record 10 consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Wednesday marked the longest heat streak in Tokyo since record-keeping began in 1875, breaking the record set in 2022 when the Japanese capital experienced nine straight days of extreme heat.

Weather officials urged people to take thorough measures to prevent heatstroke, such as using air conditioners appropriately and replenishing fluids and salt intake.

Meanwhile, due to damp air and rising temperatures, extremely unstable atmospheric conditions are expected in some areas from Wednesday afternoon, especially those in eastern and western Japan, potentially resulting in localized heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, the JMA added.
