Zhang Yun, a 105-year-old veteran of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, had fought alongside the Flying Tigers and also witnessed the Japanese surrender ceremony on Hainan Island.

From guarding Yangtang Airfield in Guilin in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to celebrating the moment of victory, his life embodies the fearless belief behind his words: "What is there to be afraid of?" Time may have taken memories, but it could never erase the glory etched in his bones. “What is there to fear when we are at war?” — this unwavering spirit he wore like a medal throughout his century-long life.
