Four Chinese films, including "My Country, My Parents," "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru," "Detective Chinatown 1900," and "The Sky Is the Limit," were recently showcased at a three-day China Film Festival held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

The festival, which ran from August 27 to 29, was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping, Kyrgyz State Secretary Marat Imankulov and a film delegation from China led by Zhang Xuxia, deputy director of the China Film Archive. Alongside them, over 350 local audience members gathered to watch the opening film "My Country, My Parents."

During the event, Liu Jiangping took a moment to reflect on the remarkable historical feats and profound friendship forged between the Chinese and Kyrgyz people during World War II when they faced adversity together.

Liu announced that China would invite the descendants of Kyrgyz army veterans to attend the commemoration events in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Imankulov spoke highly of the resilience and national spirit demonstrated by the Chinese people during that wartime. He pointed out that Kyrgyzstan, as a vital node on the ancient Silk Road, has long served as a bridge for cultural exchanges. Today, under the guidance of the leaders of both countries, the Kyrgyzstan-China strategic partnership continues to deepen, and the achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative are abundant.

In her address, Zhang Xuxia reviewed the significant progress made in film exchanges between the two countries in recent years. She expressed the strong willingness of Chinese film institutions to collaborate with their Kyrgyz counterparts to effectively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and via the art of film, to better preserve the shared historical memory of the two peoples' joint fight against fascism, and promote peace, friendship and cooperation.
