At the BWF World Championships in Paris, China's top seed Shi Yuqi advanced to the semi-finals of the men's singles after a comeback victory over his compatriot Weng Hongyang.

In the all-Chinese quarterfinal, Shi, dressed in red, hammered a powerful smash to level the score at 6. He then moved ahead 11–10 after the 16th-seeded Weng sent a shot wide, ultimately winning the first game 21–15.

However, the 26-year-old Weng dominated the second game, levelling the match by taking it 21–7.

But Shi regained momentum in the deciding game, racing to a 10–0 lead with another big smash. On match point, a final overhead from Shi sealed the victory, with the third game ending 21–10.

The world number one is now set to face Canada's unseeded Victor Lai in the semi-finals, after Lai caused an upset by defeating South Korea's Loh Kean Yew.

In the women's singles quarter-finals, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Chen Yufei faced Pornpawee Chochuwong. Chen entered the match with a dominant 14–1 head-to-head record against the Thai player. She reached game point but was forced into a spectacular dive to keep the rally alive, only for Chochuwong to level the score at 20–20.

Chen appeared to have hit her nose on the court and took a moment to recover before getting up.

The fourth-seeded Chinese shuttler was unharmed and went on to win the next net exchange with a decisive smash.

The 27-year-old Chen earned another opportunity to close out the opening game and succeeded, taking it 22–20 after Chochuwong's shot found the net.

The second game proved far more straightforward for Chen, who secured it 21–14 to advance to the semi-finals in 53 minutes. She is set to next meet old rival and top seed An Se-young of South Korea, the reigning Paris 2024 Olympic champion.
