This year marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. This was the first complete victory for the Chinese nation in wars against aggression and for national liberation in modern times. It was a pivotal event in both the history of China and the world in the 20th century, but also a deeply dark, destructive period for humanity.

Spanish writer and journalist Luis del Gozo has undertaken a thorough study of that past, systematically analyzing the arrangement of the geopolitical landscape into two rival blocs in the lead-up to World War II. His focus on China and its indelible contributions on the Eastern Front drew his attention to the story of "comfort women." Luis learned about the painful experiences of tens of thousands of women who were abducted and forced into sexual slavery by Japanese troops during the war. He now calls for a more comprehensive understanding of World War II history in order to cherish the hard-won prize that is peace.
