This document – the official death notice for Sichuan soldier Zhang Pengyun – tells a story of great sacrifice. He fell in the heroic Defense of Teng County in 1938, a pivotal battle that shaped China's eventual victory at Taierzhuang. The sacrifice of Zhang Pengyun and his comrades slowed the southward advance of tens of thousands of Japanese elite troops, paving the way for a decisive triumph.
