A 1956 certificate appointing He Weikun as a team counselor for the Chinese Young Pioneers.

He donned a military uniform.

He stood guard for his country.

And he believed that "everyone has a duty toward his country."

Contributor He Lu shared her great-grandfather's handwritten autobiography with "Echoes of History: Our WWII Memories." A Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy graduate, he rarely spoke of the war, but on those yellowed pages, his service and beliefs live on.
