China couldn't make it past France in the round of 16 at the 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship in Thailand. They were beaten in four-sets and France will now face Brazil in their first-ever quarterfinal at the event.
China made a poor start to the opening frame and quickly fell 9-3 behind before losing it 25-20. The PRC made improvements in the second but were still nowhere near the level they needed to be. A spike from Li Yingying gave them two set points at one stage but France came back and claimed the frame 27-25. China tried to regroup in the third, with Gao Yi and Wang Yuanyuan helping the side pull a set back with a 25-22 victory.
But France, led by captain Helena Cazaute, who finished with a match-high 23 points, stood firm and they sealed an impressive overall 3-1 win by wrapping up the fourth 25-20. In their first quarterfinal at this tournament France now have a tougher task when they face Brazil on Thursday.
