The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit took place on August 31 and September 1 in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin. Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) while presiding over the "SCO Plus" meeting at the summit. 

He called on countries to work toward a fairer and more balanced global governance system and urged members to uphold the principles of the Shanghai Spirit. 

Xi stated that the meeting in Tianjin signaled a new, hopeful journey toward a brighter future.
