In a stunning display of resilience, Amanda Anisimova avenged her Wimbledon defeat by Iga Swiatek, advancing to the US Open semi-finals with a decisive 6-4, 6-3 victory over the second-ranked Pole.

Entering the US Open as a heavy favorite, Swiatek had recently added the Cincinnati Open title to her maiden Wimbledon championship, but the pressure of expectations seemed to weigh heavily on her. Although she broke serve in the very first game, Anisimova quickly retaliated, capturing the opening set after Swiatek sailed a forehand long.

The second set saw Anisimova again fighting back after an early deficit. She leveled the score at 2-2 following a crucial break and moved within a game of victory when Swiatek succumbed to a costly double fault. Despite Swiatek saving two match points, a favorable net cord for Anisimova ultimately sealed the match, granting the 24-year-old a sense of redemption.

On the other side of the draw, Naomi Osaka continued her remarkable comeback by defeating Czech 11th seed Karolina Muchova 6-4, 7-6 (7/3).

This victory marks Osaka's deepest run at a Grand Slam since returning to tennis after the birth of her daughter in 2023. The Japanese star's performance was reminiscent of her past triumphs, as she unleashed 30 winners in a display of dominant tennis.

"It's been a while since I've been in this position," Osaka noted, reflecting on her past successes at the US Open, where she has won the title every time she has reached the semi-finals.

Osaka will be looking to break her losing streak against Anisimova, having fallen to her in both previous encounters at the Australian Open and the French Open in 2022.
