Estelita Dy, a Filipino survivor of wartime sexual slavery under the Japanese army in Word War II, died at age 94 on November 24, 2024. She was abducted by Japanese troops at 14 while working on a sugarcane farm and endured repeated rape in military barracks.

In the 1990s, inspired by Filipina activist Rosa Henson, Dy joined Lila Pilipina, an organization fighting for justice for Philippine wartime sexual slavery victims. "She fought for justice until her deathbed," said Sharon Cabusao-Silva, the group's director. Dy's daughter, Elizabeth, has since continued her mother's activism. "We demand historical accountability and reparations," Elizabeth said at her mother's grave. "Though she's gone, I'll keep fighting, even if justice feels distant."
