Ye Xiaodong, a martyr's son, has guarded the Nanyang Volunteer Drivers and Mechanics Monument for 20 years. The 81-year-old's father, Chen Tuanyuan, one of the 3,200 volunteers, was killed by Japanese troops while returning to China to serve his country. Ye stands watch over the monument and passes on the heroes' stories.
