The 2025 Low-Altitude Economy Development Conference opened with two new aircraft designs in Wuhu, east China's Anhui Province on Friday. The event brought together more than 100 experts and entrepreneurs from across China's low-altitude economy sector.

The Xiangyun V unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the CA40 plane made their public debut at the event. Until now, details about both aircraft had remained largely under wraps during their research and development phases, according to the local government.

The Xiangyun V UAV is a five-ton payload, twin-engine cargo drone designed for diverse aviation logistics applications including emergency rescue. Independently developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) Wuhu Diamond Aircraft Manufacture Company, it achieves complete localization while maintaining independent control over its core technologies. The Xiangyun V boasts a maximum payload of 2,000 kilograms, a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers and a cargo volume of 14.5 cubic meters, placing it among the most advanced in China. It is expected to meet the logistics needs of remote areas by providing low-cost, efficient air transportation.

The CA40 is a new-generation, four-seat, fixed-wing plane. Fully equipped with domestically produced avionics and engine systems, it reaches a maximum cruise speed of 260 kilometers per hour. Tailored for flight training, the CA40 features enhanced safety measures, including anti-spin design and de-icing capability. With additional advantages such as high fuel efficiency from its heavy-fuel engine and unlimited lifespan of its all-composite airframe, the CA40 can serve multiple roles in flight training, aerial patrol, tourism, and private aviation.

The event is held from September 5 to 7, under the theme "scenario innovation leads, safe and orderly development." It aims to provide a platform for industry exchange and promote high-quality development of the low-altitude economy.

Since 2022, Wuhu has hosted the Low-Altitude Economy Development Conference for four consecutive years, securing 82 key project agreements with a total investment of 59.8 billion yuan (about $8.4 billion).
