On the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that it is a unilateral vision to define World War II as from 1939 to 1945. He notes that the Chinese people's resistance was a "decisive factor" in weakening Japan and helping the Allies achieve victory. "We need to read history in a truly universal perspective," he said.
