Audiences worldwide are eager to see more films from China at international film festivals, where they can experience contemporary Chinese culture and stories, experts said during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

This year's edition features a growing number of Chinese works across different sections. "It's like a comeback of Chinese cinema on the international stage, which is very good. We have been missing Chinese films," said Alberto Barbera, director of the festival, in an interview with Xinhua.

"Chinese cinema has been a very important player on the international scene since the 1980s," he added, noting that the festival welcomes a new generation of Chinese filmmakers.

"It is very important to have the presence of Chinese films in Venice," said Roberto Stabille, head of the international department of Cinecitta, an Italian film company. "Venice always host events about Chinese films, and we are working hard to do more," he added.

He added that in recent years, Chinese films have drawn international audiences because they reflect the realities of contemporary China. "It's very important to understand life and culture in China - not only in the past, but also in the present and the future," he said.

According to Italo Spinelli, an Italian director participating in the festival, young audiences are consuming films in new forms and on diverse platforms, and China is part of this cinematic revolution.

"Chinese immersive creations combine history and modernity in ways distinct from the West," said Michel Reilhac, consultant for the Venice Immersive section.

"It's very interesting because there is a sense of bringing tradition into a digital and modern context. These works can really help us who are not in China understand Chinese stories better," he said.

Spinelli noted that a new generation of Chinese filmmakers is emerging on the international stage, and their works are appealing to global audiences.

"Many Chinese films talk about local realities but in a way that carries international meaning," Spinelli said, adding that this quality is crucial for understanding differences in today's complex world.

"In a way, good Chinese films are specific Chinese. More Chinese it is, more international it is," he said.
