Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced on Sunday that he will step down as head of the Liberal Democratic Party. He becomes the fourth world leader to resign in just four months, following the prime ministers of Mongolia, the Netherlands, and Lithuania. Since taking office last year, Ishiba has faced persistently low approval ratings, while the LDP-led coalition has lost its majority in both houses of parliament.
