Malaysian Tyrian seeks ways to expand access to opportunities for youth

CGTN

Back in Malaysia, Tyrian co-founded her first NGO in 2018 while still a senior at university, aiming to help underprivileged urban young people gain access to education and develop employable skills. Although the NGO closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the experience gave her first-hand insight into how targeted mentorship and training can transform young people's confidence and opportunities.

After moving to Beijing in 2022, Tyrian carried this vision forward. Alongside her full-time role as an IT consultant, she began collaborating with local schools, community centers, and student associations to run workshops and coaching sessions for teenagers and young adults. These programs teach practical skills such as preparing for job interviews, building resumes, switching academic majors, applying for postgraduate studies, and navigating career transitions.

Several participants have since successfully gained internships, secured their first jobs, or pursued new career paths. By providing direct support and creating a safe space for growth, Tyrian has helped young people turn uncertainty into opportunity.

Through these experiences, she has seen how consistent guidance and structured training can break down barriers and expand access to opportunities.
