White Dew

CGTN

01:12

White Dew, the 15th solar term on the Chinese lunar calendar and the third in autumn, falls on September 7 this year. Its name originates from the natural phenomenon of moisture in the air condensing into white dew on plants and other surfaces as temperatures drop, especially at night. The character "white" (白) is used to describe these autumn dewdrops. During this period, summer heat recedes, and the temperature difference between day and night becomes more significant. Cold air gradually becomes more active, wild geese begin their migration south, and various birds prepare for winter by storing food. White Dew is also a harvest season. Folk customs include eating longan, drinking Bailu tea and consuming foods like lotus seeds and white fungus soup. These customs emphasize nourishing the body to combat dryness and prevent cold as part of seasonal health maintenance.
