Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold in-depth exchanges with other BRICS leaders on the current global economic landscape, multilateral systems, BRICS cooperation, and other key issues of mutual interest at an upcoming virtual summit, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
At the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President Xi will attend the BRICS Leaders Virtual Meeting via video link from Beijing on Monday and deliver an important address, the ministry announced Sunday.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Monday afternoon, Lin Jian, spokesperson for the ministry, said the BRICS cooperation mechanism serves as an important platform for solidarity and collaboration among emerging markets and developing countries.
In the face of rising unilateralism and protectionism, BRICS countries have worked together to uphold multilateralism, defend fairness and justice, and promote common development, establishing themselves as a positive, stabilizing, and constructive force in international affairs, Lin said.
China, he added, stands ready to work with all parties to uphold the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, advance high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation, jointly foster a more just and equitable global governance system, and make new contributions to promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.
