As the 2025 Virtual BRICS Summit takes place in Brazil, member countries are questioning what new meanings define “Big BRICS” cooperation and how it sets a new direction for global governance. “The expansion of the BRICS membership, including countries like Egypt and Indonesia, was a clear sign of inclusion and representation,” says M.A. graduate Marina Moreno from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, she believes BRICS’ evolving financial mechanisms are enhancing financial independence for nations and regions, offering more efficient and accessible support for Global South cooperation under the Belt and Road framework.
