In 1942, the Lisbon Maru sank off the coast of Zhoushan Islands in east China's Zhejiang Province. Local fishermen risked everything to pull the men from the water and successfully saved 384 British POWs. Today, statues, letters, and paintings on the Island tell the story of the courage and compassion that occurred on that fateful day. On the 80th anniversary of the victory in WWII, let's keep this history alive!
