Chinese home favorite Sheng Lihao earned the men's 10-meter air rifle silver medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Thursday. Danilo Sollazzo of Italy claimed gold while also breaking the world record in the final.

Olympic champion Sheng topped qualifying with 637.1 points, 3.6 ahead of the second-placed Sollazzo. But the 22-year-old Italian seized control from the start in the final and never looked back. He scored less than 10.5 points just twice in 24 shots, sealing his first international title of the season with 255, half-a-point better than the previous world record set by Sheng last year.

World No. 1 Sheng finished with 253.5 points to grab silver, his second medal at this event after pairing with Peng Xinlu to finish as runners-up in the mixed team final on Tuesday. South Korea's Park Ha-jun bagged bronze with 231.9 points.

In the women's 25-meter pistol final, Yao Qianxun led a Chinese sweep of the top three qualification spots with 594 points, while Olympic 10-meter air pistol champion Oh Ye-jin spearheaded a South Korean trio.

The final evolved into a China-South Korea showdown after the first five rounds. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Xiao Jiaruixuan edged compatriot Zhang Yueyue in a shootoff to stay in contention, winding up as the last Chinese shooter standing.

In the end, South Korea's reigning Olympic champion Yang Ji-in prevailed with 39 hits, two more than countrywoman Oh, to secure the gold. Xiao earned bronze in her first senior World Cup final.
