World No. 2 Wang Chuqin of China battled from behind to defeat Jonathan Groth of Denmark in four games 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-2 in the men's singles second round at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao in China's Macao Special Administrative Region on Thursday.
Wang was not in top form in the opener, seeing his rhythm interrupted by his opponent multiple times before the 32-year-old Dane claimed the game 11-7.
China's 25-year-old world champion quickly bounced back, however, taking three straight games to seal the deal. He will face eighth-seeded Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei next.
In other action, Wang's compatriot Xue Fei upset third-seeded Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 to reach the quarterfinals as well. His next opponent will be Jang Woo-jin of South Korea.

On the women's side, China's eighth-seeded Chen Yi defeated Kim Na-yeong of South Korea after rallying from one game down. Chen, who had to overcome a 2-0 deficit to win their first meeting last year, dropped the first game 11-8 in this encounter. But she soon tied the match by clinching the second 11-7.
The 21-year-old Chinese rising star continued to improve her performance as the competition progressed. Chen closed out the next two games 11-7 and 11-4, advancing to the last eight where she will meet Ying Han of Germany.
