Manchester City delivered a commanding performance in the 197th Manchester derby, sweeping aside rivals Manchester United 3–0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with Erling Haaland netting a brace.

A minutes applause was held before kick-off in honor of boxer Ricky Hatton, who passed away aged 46. He was from Manchester and was a lifelong City fan.

Phil Foden, making his first start of the season, opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a clinical header from a rebound after Jeremy Doku's initial cross was blocked. The Belgian winger had initially weaved through United's backline with ease before supplying the decisive ball.

Haaland continued his red-hot form, adding a second just after the break. Doku was again involved, driving past defender Lenny Yoro before squaring to the Norwegian, who delicately lifted his finish over goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

The 25-year-old sealed his double midway through the second half, sprinting onto a through ball from Bernardo Silva after United conceded possession cheaply in midfield. Haaland raced clear of Harry Maguire and calmly finished past Bayindir once more.

With the result, Manchester City move up to eighth place with their second league win, while United sit 14th with only one victory so far.
