U.S. officials spoke to reporters on Monday following talks on economic and trade issues with the Chinese delegation at the Santa Cruz Palace in Madrid.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the discussions were "respectful, wide-ranging, and in-depth," while U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer called them "productive." Greer added that the two sides have "great and deep respect for each other."
Bessent also stated that a "framework" for a deal on TikTok had been reached with China, with Greer saying the U.S. and China agreed on the "challenging and prickly" issue of TikTok.
