Fearful that traditional culture and skills might fade with the generations, Gulixian left behind her enviable job in a big city and returned to her hometown of Turpan, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Starting from scratch, she and her husband began creating short videos, exploring rural areas to find inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. She focuses on showcasing traditional Uyghur crafts, from wooden block printing to wool felt art. Now her work has attracted nearly 500,000 followers while bringing once-forgotten ancient skills back into the spotlight.
