The United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Thursday calling for an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and the lifting of Israeli aid restrictions. Fourteen of the 15 council members supported the resolution. The veto was defended by the U.S., citing concerns that the proposal did not sufficiently hold Hamas accountable. The latest move adds to growing international frustration over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
