Xinjiang's minority languages are thriving!

In China's Xinjiang, almost every member of an ethnic minority group can speak their mother tongue, whether Uygur or other Turkic languages. This stands in sharp contrast to the situation of indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities in the U.S. or other Western countries. Barry Sautman, professor emeritus at HKUST notes: In the U.S., only about 10% of Native Americans still speak their ancestral languages, and among Hispanics, only about 20% are fluent in Spanish.
